Getting started...

There are 10 teachers at a BLIP meeting.
Being a friendly bunch, they all decide to shake hands.

If they are to only shake hands with each person once, how many handshakes need to take place?

  2. 90
    10 people in the group would shake hands with the other 9 memebers of the meeting. THey would not shake hands with themselves.
    10x9 = 90

  3. I'm not sure all teachers would shake hands - what if there are two teachers from the same school?

  4. I'm not sure how to work this out - could be good fun to act it out with children and then work out the system. 'See the maths'. The answer might be a long time coming!

  11. Well done to all of you having a go! The answer is 45.

    Ben had the correct method - well done.

    You might want to think about how you could make the addition a bit easier...

    HINT: Think about pairs of numbers...
